What We Offer

Learn about the exclusive services offered for our valuable clients

Profesional Grantmaking

APF has the experience and expertise to identify trustworthy grantees in the fields of health, education, and environment for its donors. These grants are closely monitored by APF staff through the final report. Donors can be as involved as they choose in the selection process and throughout the life of the grant, including site visits.

Capacity Building

APF works closely with nonprofits in Mexico and Latin America to ensure that they have the organizational skills and tools they need to carry out meaningful and effective work in health, education, and the environment. APF staff help these organizations to develop work plans, annual budgets, and proposals, while also advising them on strategic planning and leadership development.

Consulting/Research

APF offers customized advisory services to individuals, families and organizations that help articulate philanthropic visions to realize international charitable giving goals. Additionally, APF leads research activities in each of our key program areas, resulting in tools for advocacy and innovation.

Convening

APF provides an objective space for thoughtful analysis, dialogue, and decision-making, both virtually and in person. APF convenes conference calls, trainings, workshops, and talks on specific topics requested by our grantees or our donors. Our staff participates in a wide range of technical and programmatic networks and works diligently to share this information with our grantees in Mexico and Latin America as much as possible.

Together we can make a difference

Donor-Advised Funds

A Donor-Advised Fund is a fundraising vehicle administered by a private charity like Amigos of the Planet. Created for the purpose of managing charitable donations on behalf of an individual, family or company, it provides an easy, cost-effective way to support the causes you are passionate about in Mexico and Latin America.

We offer donor-advised funds that are uniquely flexible:

TWO TYPES OF DONOR- ADVISED FUNDS

Depending on your personal goals, Donor-Advised Funds can be either endowed or non-endowed.

1. ENDOWMENT FUNDS:

These funds guarantee that your philanthropic vision will benefit future generations by offering ongoing financial security for your favorite charitable cause or social issue in Mexico and Latin America. Fund assets are invested to generate income. However only a portion of the income is spent, with the remainder adding to principal growth.

2. NON-ENDOWMENT FUNDS:

These funds help support nonprofits outside the U.S. while offering timely operational support for programmatic initiatives. Unlike an endowment fund, a non-endowment fund does not operate in perpetuity. Assets generated by the gifts to the fund are neither permanent nor invested.

SETTING UP A DONOR-ADVISED FUND

Donor-Advised Funds may be established by individuals, couples or families. Groups of friends can come together to established Donor-Advised Committee Funds. APF also offers Donor-Advised Corporate Funds to companies that want to inspire change in the communities and regions where they operate internationally. A Donor-Advised Fund can be established with a minimum $5,000 contribution. Once you establish your fund, you can continue to add to it anytime, receiving tax benefits with each new gift.

Grantmaking

Overview

Grantmaking is a formal process used to distribute funds or other resources to nonprofits and community organizations. APF facilitates international grantmaking by connecting our donors to organizations in Mexico and Latin America that are having a significant impact in their communities, inspiring change, and weaving a stronger civil society.

APF is up-to-date on all IRS and Department of State regulations. We have the knowledge and expertise to identify excellent grantees in the fields of environment and social development, education and health. As a grantmaking foundation, we can also research and develop grant strategies and recommend timely grantmaking opportunities.

Grantmaking Process

APF grantees are typically identified by our donor advisors, who make grant recommendations. As an International Foundation, we have limited discretionary funds to distribute to our grantees. For these reasons, APF does not accept unsolicited nonprofit grant proposals.
